The UNU Financial Assistance Programme for Students from Developing Countries Studying in Japan (hereinafter the “Programme”) offers an award to high-achieving students who have reimbursed the funds without delay. In addition to the Academic Excellence Award, the Programme introduces the Interim Academic Excellence Award as of 2009.
1. Qualifications
The recipient students need to be registered in the second year of either four-year undergraduate or three-year doctoral course at tht time of the selection. Also, the students must not have any records of delayed reimbursements to be considered for the selection.
2. Privilege
10,000yen will be awarded to the successful students regardless of the amount of the disbursement. However, if the student in question delays in the successive reimbursements after the selection, he/she loses its right to receive the award.
3. Selection
The Cooperating University selects from eligible students the student who demonstrates an excellent academic performance or whose academic advancement is outstanding. The academic performance should be assessed by objective criteria such as Grade Point Average. Each Cooperating University may select one student in principle. However, should there be more than 6 candidates, up to 2 students can be selected.(respectively one student can be added per 5 candidates.) The university with only 1 candidate will decide whether or not to grant the award based on his/her qualificatoins.
4. Selection period
Period considered for the selection: Until September 30
Notification of the selection result from cooperating university to UNU:By the middle of October
Presentation of privilege from UNU to cooperating university:In early December
5. Notification and Recognition
Successful students will be notified by their respective Cooperating Universities after authorization by UNU. The award will be presented to the students by their respective universities, or UNU if requested.
