MOFA JICA UNU CU "UNU Financial Assistance Programme for Students from Developing Countries Studying in Japan"(UNU-FAP) is implemented by the United Nations University with financial assistance of the Government of Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency, which provides reimbursable funds to self-financed students from developing countries studying at junior colleges and universities in Japan. The purpose of this Programme is to provide financial assitance to those students while they study in Japan and encourage them to contribute to the development of their home countries in the future.

As the first step, a junior college or university has to join the Programme as a Cooperating University(CU). Once a junior college or a university becomes CU, it is possible for the students enrolled in junior college, undergraduate or graduate course at the CU to apply for the Programme through the CU and receive reimbursable funds. After funds are provided, students must reimburse the funds by returning 10,000 yen every month and will complete their reimbursements before they finish their courses at CU.

Once students receive the UNU-FAP funds, they cannot apply for the second time until they complete their reimbursements (including early reimbursements). Once reimbursements are completed and if there is enough time before graduation, s/he can apply for UNU-FAP again. Also, if a student goes on to an advanced course(e.g. from undergraduate course to master's course), s/he can apply for UNU-FAP again.
